As you saw in yesterday’s Patreon video and this week’s social media posts, I have shifted most of the material for the Finding Home shoot away from live broadcasts and instead am sharing it on Patreon and here on my blog.

So in keeping with that: today, I wanted to share a little walk-through/sneak peak of the costume!

Now, let me just first say that this particular costume is SUPPOSED to look eclectic and gathered. And this was actually really nice, because it made it easy to just use whatever materials I had on hand and not worry about having the perfect finishes. This costume has been great for the budget, and great for cleaning out some of my studio cupboards!

So, why did I want this costume to be so mish-mashy, unfinished, and eccentric? Because I felt that that was the best way to represent what it feels like when you realize you’ve found your home.

Home is this wonderfully eclectic place where we are allowed to be who we are. It’s grounding and freeing at the same time. It’s where we can be ourselves and not worry about how we look. It’s peaceful and yet it’s also the place where we are allowed to dare the loudest and be our bravest. It’s the place that is made up of all the little pieces of who we are and who we call family. Home is gathered.

And so I used old linen’s we found in an antique fair in the Netherlands, and the bottoms of saris my mom brought back from India. It’s made with curtains a dear friend gave me (I’m sorry Rebecca if you didn’t want me to cut them up!), and fabric from thrift store runs with my mom.

Anyway… it’s a funky little costume, but I think it might just be my favorite that I’ve made in all my years of making! It represents so much of what makes me happy, so I hope it makes you happy as well when you see these images.

I will leave this little walk-through here without sharing too much of the finished product. Tomorrow, I’ll be sharing the vlog of the shoot itself, where you can see the full costume, so make sure to check my Patreon for that! All posts this week will be free and open to the public on Patreon, so now’s your chance to see what goes on over there!
