It’s been a mad rush towards the end, but the costume for Heartbreak is finally finished!

After two months of hard work, I can’t tell you how absolutely proud (and relieved) I was to bring the gown downstairs and stage it for a little shoot today. All of the effort and frustrations felt like they were worth every minute of my time spent working on it.

While there are a few things that didn’t go exactly to plan (I had meant for the skirt to be more tattered and the zipper doesn’t like GREAT), I am, overall, EXTREMELY pleased with what I’ve accomplished here.

I am completely self-taught and admittedly have an unhealthy aversion to doing research or looking things up. I therefore have a tendency to just go full steam ahead on projects and try to figure it out on my own. This time, though, I really did try to do my research and get it right the first time (rather than making several attempts, which usually ended in a bit of swearing). And so I’m very pleased that, despite it’s many flaws, I really do feel that I have improved my skillset quite a bit.

Anyway, I suppose I am sharing all of this to say that I’m excited for the rest of Passages and the many, many costumes I will be making for the project. Perhaps by the end of all this, I will be a fairly decent seamstress!

If you want to see how I created this gown, I put together a fun (and somewhat relaxing) video of the process. It is formatted as a time lapse, which is immensely satisfying, as it covers the entire creative process (from pattern drafting all the way to completion) in less than ten minutes. You can view the time lapse and accompanying commentary on my Patreon.
