I’ve been living with my grandparents out in the country for about three weeks now, and already it is a vastly different experience from five years ago when I lived with them last. Not because my grandparents are any different (I swear I’m the only one getting older here), but because I’m in a very different place in my life than I was then.

Last time, I was 23, had just graduated from college and was looking for a job. My days consisted of exploring their forested property in solitude and working on a 365 project (being jobless meant I actually had time for things like that). This time around, the biggest difference is that I’m employed! So in the mornings, I wake up early to “go to work” (fortunately my commute is only ten steps to down the hall). Once I get my “work” work done,  I have the afternoons/evenings free to work on photography, brainstorming, and costume making (I’m working on a fun little project right now that I’ll be sharing soon. Hint: it’s a collaboration)!

And now, when I explore around my grandparent’s property, I have a little companion, which is a fun change from the last time I lived here. Freya is learning to love the lake, which gives me lots of reasons to pull out my phone and record her antics in the water.

One things that hasn’t changed, however, is how peaceful it is out here. When you live out in the country, I swear the sun takes longer to set in the evenings and the space between 8 am and 8 pm feels more like 16 hours than 12. So I spend those long evenings out on the dock, brainstorming new photo ideas while listening to my puppy chasing up and down the shore line and the lapping of the water around me.
