Finally! An Update on the Sugar Springs Renovation!

While I started 2019 off strong on the home-updating front — getting my attic studio painted and refurbishing some old cabinets to create more storage in the room — things unfortunately came to a halt after late spring/early summer. Which is why my last house update was almost an entire year ago! Fortunately, I was able to finish 2019 off strong by squeezing in some pretty substantial projects near the end. And while my house is still a little bit of a construction zone (especially outside, where my entire yard has now been reduced to mud), it’s high time I took you on [...]

What I Realized from Reading Old Journal Entries

I recently let my Patreon patrons vote which Passages photo I’m going to work on next, and they overwhelmingly chose the theme of “heartbreak”. Even though I set heartbreak as one of the options, I was still very nervous when that theme won the poll. It’s a daunting theme!   But the point of Passages isn’t just to make pretty pictures. As the sort of autobiographical series I am hoping it will be, it’s also meant to represent ALL of my experiences, both good and bad. However, apart from being a daunting theme to work with, I also have the [...]

I’m Treading a New Path

There’s been a trend on social media lately towards the authentic. I think this is happening because for a lot of us, we could feel the humanity disappearing from our feeds. Like everything had become staged for the perfect cinematic production instead of the honest happenings of our lives.   Over the past few years, I’ll admit that I too started to fall into this trap of perfection. Sharing only the staged images with captions that made me sound like some perfectly poised artist living a fairytale life. And a few months ago, it all caught up with me. I [...]

The 29 Things I’ve Learned by My 29th Birthday

It was my birthday a few days ago! TWENTY. NINE! As I was driving home with Hoki the evening of my birthday, I kept thinking to myself that 29 felt... scary. It’s the first time in my life I’ve felt that on a birthday. Usually I’m filled with a combination of optimism and (more recently) relief that the previous year was over. But unlike 24 - 27, 28 was an absolutely wonderful year! So many good, rewarding things happened and I have absolutely zero regrets about any of the big decisions I made these last twelve months. So just like [...]

For When You Forget to Believe In Yourself

I was thinking the other day about how much I’ve changed and grown since I was a teenager. (Funny how time does that to you).   When I was in high school, I MASSIVELY struggled with self-confidence. Some combination of shyness and perfectionism made it really hard for me to ever be satisfied with my work and too timid to be able to share anything less than perfect. Obviously that’s not a good combination, and because of it, I never shared my talents and I never put myself out there, which is a shame. A huge shame. But I don’t [...]

Farmhouse Update: Big Changes in the Studio

I’ve now been in my house for almost three months, so I figured it was time I did another update on what I’ve been up to since I posted my first little tour. Now I’ll be honest, I haven’t made as much progress as I wanted to have made at this point, but I’ve also been traveling a LOT this past month and a half so I’m trying to be fair to myself. I am really pleased that I finished (mostly) one of the projects that was on the top of my list, and that is painting and organizing [...]

Ramblings On A Warm February Afternoon

This past Tuesday was a really good day, but not for any particular reason.   It started off like every day has lately. I worked for a few hours in the morning, then worked out, showered, and cooked myself lunch. Pretty mundane, but I think it also helped that it was one of those rare February days where the sun came out and temperatures ventured over 60 degrees for a few hours.     I took my lunch outside and sat in the sun for about thirty minutes while I ate. I just sat there, the sun warming the bare [...]
