A Special Announcement: I’m Taking the Next Step

I’m feeling a bit… timid… today. Mostly because of this blog post, which I am both nervous and excited to share. Excited because I am announcing a new chapter in my creative journey, but also nervous, because with this announcement comes a favor I would like to ask of you. So without keeping you in the dark too much longer: I wanted you to know that I am starting a Patreon!     Of course, when I first heard of Patreon, I also had no idea what it was. What’s more, when I did found out, my initial thought was [...]

Why I Finally Decided to Close My Etsy Shop

Last week, I made the decision to shutdown my Etsy and Redbubble shops. Not because I hate selling and sharing my work or even because I hate having a store (let’s be real, I’m human, and I like making money…). Rather, I shut them down because I do love selling and sharing my work, and I wanted to do it the way that felt best to me. Doing it through Etsy and Redbubble just didn’t feel authentic to myself, and so I opened my own store, right here on my own website.     I guess, I’m a little bit [...]

When Time is the Enemy…

Have you ever regretted not documenting something? Maybe it was that one time you forgot your camera, or that one time you saved all of your tickets from trips to foreign lands, only to misplace them somewhere. Eventually you forget the memories entirely. You forget where you placed all those souvenirs, and eventually they disappear, never to be seen again. When I finished Daughters of the King, the entirety of what I had spent the last three years creating was scattered across various blog posts, website pages, and costume trunks. I felt almost like someone who had misplaced their [...]

I’ve Decided to Quit… and Here’s Why I’m Alright With That

When I was a little girl, I loved to hold my breath. I especially loved to hold it through the long, dark tunnels we passed through on our trips to visit our Texas cousins each year. As we drove through the stone channels bisecting the Ozark mountains, I often competed, both with myself and my siblings, on who could last the longest. Just as the hood of our big Suburban touched the shadowed edge of the tunnel, I would take a tremendous, desperate breath of air, intent on making it the entire length without opening my mouth. After a certain [...]

The One Thing I Desperately Want – Reaching Blindly

There is something that I want. Desperately. I want it enough to push myself beyond my limits and devote every moment I can spare to obtain it. What I want is a future filled with joy, passion, and a sense of fulfillment. I know it is out there, brighter, and happier than I can even imagine, drawing me on through the long and short days as time steadily marches forward. Even though I don’t know exactly what this future looks like, what it will contain, or even when I will be able to hold it, I have decided to continue [...]

Giveaway: Artist Collector’s Box

Growing up, one of my favorite things was family trips on Saturdays out to Garfield, a small town in rural Arkansas with a population of just over 500 people. Tucked along the winding forested road leading to Missouri was my family’s favorite garden center, as well as Martin Greer’s Candy Shop. After a morning spent admiring the butterfly koi swimming around the lilypad-covered ponds, we would make the quick drive up the road to Martin Greer’s little white store to pick out treats for the drive home. Most of the time our little box of handpicked chocolates was devoured as soon [...]

Welcome!

Welcome to my new home! I have finally made the admittedly long-overdue switch to having my own website and domain. While it has been a rough past month or so getting this all set up, complete with quite a few moments of hair pulling a being tempted on numerous occasions to throw my computer out the window, it feels so nice to have everything it all done. Most importantly to have everything in one place! This is just a short post for today, but I wanted to share how excited I feel about this transition. The picture to the left [...]
