The Hardest Year (or So) of My Life

I’ll admit it. There have been numerous occasions in the past where my blog has read less like a blog and more like my own personal journal (for which I will not apologize). And while I do enjoy being open and honest, I do still care that the things I share on here ARE actually things you want to read. Which is why, periodically, I like to ask you for suggestions on which topics I should write about.   Now, the particular topic that was suggested for today was something I was a little (lot) nervous to write about. But [...]

My Very First Time in Hawai’i

I knew I was going to love Hawai’i, but I didn’t know I was going to love it THIS much. I mean, the weather has been spectacular back here in Arkansas, and I STILL want to hop on a plane and fly to Oahu RIGHT NOW. In order to ease myself out of these Hawai’i withdrawals, I’ve been intently editing all my photos from the trip, which means I have them all ready to share on the blog today! We stayed in Hale’iwa, which if you are unfamiliar with Oahu, is on the north shore of the island. Being [...]

How I Learned to Never, Ever Trespass

I’m going to share some photos today that I thought I would never share. Some photos that I actually shot almost two years ago now, but was too ashamed to post.   Why? Because I actually got in trouble when I shot them. Not big trouble, thankfully, but I was still so uncomfortable with the situation that I uploaded these photos to my hard drive and never looked at them again.     Let me back up and start from the beginning:   When I lived in Boston, there was this field that I drove by every day on the [...]

Farmhouse Update: Big Changes in the Studio

I’ve now been in my house for almost three months, so I figured it was time I did another update on what I’ve been up to since I posted my first little tour. Now I’ll be honest, I haven’t made as much progress as I wanted to have made at this point, but I’ve also been traveling a LOT this past month and a half so I’m trying to be fair to myself. I am really pleased that I finished (mostly) one of the projects that was on the top of my list, and that is painting and organizing [...]

Ramblings On A Warm February Afternoon

This past Tuesday was a really good day, but not for any particular reason.   It started off like every day has lately. I worked for a few hours in the morning, then worked out, showered, and cooked myself lunch. Pretty mundane, but I think it also helped that it was one of those rare February days where the sun came out and temperatures ventured over 60 degrees for a few hours.     I took my lunch outside and sat in the sun for about thirty minutes while I ate. I just sat there, the sun warming the bare [...]

4 Important Things I’ve Learned About Myself

There’s nothing like anniversaries to get you thinking about how life has changed. Last week was the six month anniversary of my move back to Arkansas and it has me thinking about who I am now, versus who I was when I packed up my life and left Boston. While I’m definitely not saying I’m a drastically different person, I have noticed a few things that have changed. So here goes! Four things I’ve realized about myself since moving back home: First is a really good one: I LOVE being a homeowner just as much as I thought I would! [...]

Color: How Important Is It Really?

Someone recently asked me to do a blog post specifically on color. Personally, I loved this idea, but I was also slightly worried this would turn into a color theory lecture (which was always the most boring week in my art classes in school). So of course, I felt like I had to take this post in a different direction from typical color discussions. Instead of talking about how different colors absorb light differently or how yellow and blue mixed together make green, I want to make it a bit more personal and share with you why color is so [...]

An Epic Stand-Off: Who Will Win?

Ever since you submitted the idea for today’s blog post, I’ve been visualizing this really epic stand-off between two parties: standards waving in the wind, rows upon rows of cavalry men ready to start the charge... Clearly I read WAY too many fantasy novels, because to provide more of a background, your suggestion was actually just to compare the camera versus the program (Photoshop), and of course my mind has been working in overdrive, imaging the forces of “camera” standing against the forces of “Photoshop” on this really legit battlefield. I’m such a dork. Anyway, to the real question: Who [...]

My As-Yet-Unnamed Farmhouse

Did you see my Facebook Live session last week? If you didn’t, you missed out on seeing my new house for the first time! I only did a REALLY quick walk through, though, so today I wanted to share some pictures and some of my plans for this little farmhouse. But first, the deets: This little lady was built in 1905 by homesteaders that settled the surrounding valley with three other families. Sadly, the other two families’ homes burned down some time ago, so mine is the only one like it in the area. My house was last renovated in [...]
