The Secret to Curating Your Dream Life

Curating your dream life. It’s a phrase we’ve heard pretty frequently (especially since the advent of Instagram and the curated feed). But what does curating your dream life really mean? In my opinion, it’s not getting rid of anything that’s not “perfect” in favor of only having the most beautiful things in your life. Instead, I think curating your “dream life” really means having an “outside looking in” perspective. I think about the things I wanted so badly five to ten years ago. Seven years ago, I was planning a big move across the country to Boston. I [...]

The February Recap

Usually, March is one of the longest months of the year for me. It seems like as short as February always feels, March is determined to do the opposite and stretch on for twice as long as any other month. Not this month though. Somehow I started writing this February recap and before I knew it, I was sending it out almost half way through the March! But anyway, you’re not here for a long-winded intro, so let’s just dive in to everything I got up to last month!   Patreon I have decided that this year, I’m putting most [...]

The January Recap

CONGRATS! You made it to February! I know a lot of people really struggle with January, but I actually really enjoyed this month! Part of it has to do with some important realizations I had over the Christmas break that have helped me have a better mindset and improved mental health going into the New Year. Another part of it, I strongly suspect, has to do with finishing some pretty substantial projects over the last few weeks. Read below to find out about those! Patreon   At the beginning of the month, I sent out some little postcards of [...]

The October Recap

Twitch Last week, we had the inaugural Sugar Springs Halloween party stream over on Twitch and it was honestly a blast! We did some fun Halloween-themed costume sketches and I let people use their channel points (earned by watching my streams) to redeem me bobbing for apples in exchange for prizes! I was offering everything from private zoom lessons, to prints, to freebies from my shop. And if you were wondering, with all the apple bobbing, my costume makeup definitely did not survive the night, as you can see: With the success of our Halloween party, I [...]

My August Recap

Maddie Mondays *If you’re new here, Maddie Mondays are my personal project days, where I don’t work on anything WORK related, and get to do whatever house project I’m currently knee deep in! The infamous path is finally finished! Well, mostly. The bricks are officially laid, and the grass on both sides has been killed and turned over. On Saturday, I went with my mom and sister to buy some plants for the beds, so, now it’s basically just the finishing touches - I need to “grout” the path with sand to help stop the bricks from shifting over [...]

The March Roundup!

First of all, did March fly by for you, too? It seems like 2021 just refuses to slow down (quite unlike 2020, amiright)? So much happened in March, though, and I cannot wait to share it with you! Luckily I don't have to... because here I am... sharing everything that happened in March! Maddie Mondays Mondays are my “me” days (Hoki and I have taken to calling them my Maddie Mondays). It’s the one day of the week that I don’t have to work on anything other than what I want…or just sit on the couch and do [...]

The “Finding Home” Costume

As you saw in yesterday's Patreon video and this week's social media posts, I have shifted most of the material for the Finding Home shoot away from live broadcasts and instead am sharing it on Patreon and here on my blog. So in keeping with that: today, I wanted to share a little walk-through/sneak peak of the costume! Now, let me just first say that this particular costume is SUPPOSED to look eclectic and gathered. And this was actually really nice, because it made it easy to just use whatever materials I had on hand and not worry about having [...]

The Story Behind “The Heart Will Break”

In all my dating life, I had always been the heartbreaker in the relationship. Without fail.   And so, as a younger version of myself, I had zero empathy for that emotion. Whenever I watched movies where the protagonist was absolutely devastated by the ending of a relationship, or even worse, whenever my friends went through a breakup… I just could not understand why they were being “SO dramatic”.   Don’t get me wrong, I had been sad about the ending of a relationship. But I’m realizing now that it was more because I just really hate hurting people’s feelings, [...]

My Review of How the Heartbreak Photoshoot Went

I originally was planning on recapping the Heartbreak shoot with a quick Instagram Live, but thanks to some helpful advice from my friend Megan while she was watching my live broadcast of the shoot, I’ve realized there is a lot more to chat about!   So thank you Megan for asking some really great questions for me to use as a jumping off point! I must say, the more I do Live broadcasts, the more I love them because you guys give me so much back in return. I’m honestly bummed it’s taken me this long to really start doing [...]

Inside a Custom Portrait Session

Almost from the very beginning of my photography career, I have identified more as an artist than a photographer. And I know a lot of photographers say that, but I don’t mean it in the “my photos are really pretty” sense. Of course, don’t get me wrong: I truly believe photography is a trade that requires skill and a certain eye. Not just anyone can pick up a camera and say “I’m a photographer!” But here is the difference as I see it: A photographer’s work may live in a frame in the living room or hang on bedroom [...]
