Being Back Feels SO Strange!

I’m back in Boston this week for work and IT. IS. WEIRD. I feel simultaneously like I am back after an extended vacation, but simultaneously on vacation away from home. It’s so very strange driving the same familiar roads and almost forgetting that I don’t live here anymore.         But being back here has me reflecting about my recent move to Arkansas. Since I moved home, I’m really happy to say that I’ve only once wondered whether moving back was the right choice (and that was during a more emotional time of the month, so I don’t [...]

What Do You Think?

I don’t want to waste your time. Really, I don’t... so I'm asking for your advice. I’ve been thinking a LOT lately about what I share here on the blog and on social media and I realized that it’s time to ask your opinion. The last thing I want is to post fluff, or use meaningless captions that maybe you don’t really care about.   But here’s the only problem: I’m not a mind reader.   While I might think something is really interesting, inspiring, or informative, maybe you don’t. So today I have a short little survey for you [...]

What (Or Where) Is My Next Move? A Big Announcement!

This is one of those blog posts where I’ve been staring at a blinking cursor on a blank word document for far too long. Not because I don’t know what to say… more because I don’t know HOW to say what I need to tell you today. Maybe I need to just spit it out this time and forego my usual wordiness, so here goes:     I’m moving back to Arkansas.   In about a month. Which maaaaay seem like a snap decision, but it’s something I’ve actually been thinking a LOT about this past year. In fact, up [...]

A Topic I Avoid at All Costs

I try very hard to never get into politics here on the blog. Ever. Or really, in most situations in life as I don’t think it is either relevant or necessary to bring up. And I say this having a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, or what is essentially a 50% Political Science and 50% Economics degree. My, how things have changed.     I’ve even gone so far as to lay ground rules down with my roommates about never bringing up any political topic (mostly because we disagree on just about everything and we value harmony in the home [...]

New Here? Let Me Introduce Myself!

I’ve waxed eloquently MULTIPLE times (perhaps too many) about the wonderful opportunities that have come from working on the Green Rider project, one of them being the new fans that have decided to follow my work. (And no, I promise this is not another “I’m so grateful for the Green Rider post!” You’ve probably heard enough about it, so I’ll hold me tongue for AT LEAST one more week. After that, I can make no promises…) Rather, this is an introduction of sorts. I don’t ever want to be one of those reclusive artists that fans have difficulty connecting with, [...]

Hi, I’m Madeline and I LOVE Nerds Rope (And 24 Other Weird Quirks)

Want to know the one thing that I really do not like? Scratch that… the one thing I actually hate?   It’s that conversation you have anytime you meet someone new. You know what I’m talking about… the one that sounds like this:   “Where are you from?” says New Acquaintance. “I’m from Arkansas. What about you?” I reply. “Oh cool! But you don’t have an accent...” New Acquaintance responds. (That, or “I’ve never met anyone from Arkansas!” … apparently us Arkansans don’t get out very much...) New Acquaintance continues. “I grew up in Bedford, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston.” [...]

10 Things in 2017 I’m Most Proud Of

Like my parents always used to say, it seems like each year passes quicker than the last. In saying that, perhaps that means I’m finally an adult, with the true mark of adulthood coming when each passing year seems shorter and shorter. Now with all the adult authority I can muster, I declare that 2017 truly passed in the blink of an eye, leaving us on the verge of 2018 before I could even get used to writing “2017” in my journal each day. And although these past twelve months have felt more like two, it is with some level [...]

The #1 Thing I’ve Learned as a Photographer

Today I wanted to ask: what do you think is the single greatest lesson photography has taught me?   Wrong (it’s actually not how to take a good picture).   Get 20% off this print or any print of your choice when you sign up for my mailing list right HERE.   What photography has taught me is how to be patient. It has taught me to keep taking one step at time towards my goal and how to be happy with what I have achieved. I realized this during a conversation with a friend a few months ago. After [...]

Alright…. Maybe It’s Time You Took a Break?

There is one thing you should know about my family: We are terrible with sympathy. If you want a listening ear when life is hard and a fervent “I’m so sorry!”, it’s probably best you not come to us. Of course, we’re not heartless, and we are sorry that sometimes life deals undeserving people a bad hand. But what you’ll receive, instead, is a suggestion on how to solve your issue. Which is why, at the end of summer, I wasn’t surprised when, after a particularly lengthy amount of venting on my part,  my mom gave me some advice, rather [...]

Let’s Make This Simple: DON’T Follow Me Everywhere (Unless You Really Want To)!

To be completely honest, I don’t want you to follow me on every single social media platform. I’m serious. Please don’t.   ...let me explain: I get it. You’re busy. Goodness knows I don’t have the desire OR time to consistently and methodically check my Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, email, and my top five favorite blogs all in one sitting... and I am pretty sure you don’t either. So let me help you pick which platform you should be following me on, and which you shouldn’t.   Crown by Gems and Bones Jewelry: https://www.etsy.com/shop/gemsandbones   #1 - My blog: [...]
