The “Finding Home” Costume

As you saw in yesterday's Patreon video and this week's social media posts, I have shifted most of the material for the Finding Home shoot away from live broadcasts and instead am sharing it on Patreon and here on my blog. So in keeping with that: today, I wanted to share a little walk-through/sneak peak of the costume! Now, let me just first say that this particular costume is SUPPOSED to look eclectic and gathered. And this was actually really nice, because it made it easy to just use whatever materials I had on hand and not worry about having [...]

The Story Behind “The Heart Will Break”

In all my dating life, I had always been the heartbreaker in the relationship. Without fail.   And so, as a younger version of myself, I had zero empathy for that emotion. Whenever I watched movies where the protagonist was absolutely devastated by the ending of a relationship, or even worse, whenever my friends went through a breakup… I just could not understand why they were being “SO dramatic”.   Don’t get me wrong, I had been sad about the ending of a relationship. But I’m realizing now that it was more because I just really hate hurting people’s feelings, [...]

My Review of How the Heartbreak Photoshoot Went

I originally was planning on recapping the Heartbreak shoot with a quick Instagram Live, but thanks to some helpful advice from my friend Megan while she was watching my live broadcast of the shoot, I’ve realized there is a lot more to chat about!   So thank you Megan for asking some really great questions for me to use as a jumping off point! I must say, the more I do Live broadcasts, the more I love them because you guys give me so much back in return. I’m honestly bummed it’s taken me this long to really start doing [...]

The Heartbreak Costume

It’s been a mad rush towards the end, but the costume for Heartbreak is finally finished! After two months of hard work, I can't tell you how absolutely proud (and relieved) I was to bring the gown downstairs and stage it for a little shoot today. All of the effort and frustrations felt like they were worth every minute of my time spent working on it. While there are a few things that didn't go exactly to plan (I had meant for the skirt to be more tattered and the zipper doesn't like GREAT), I am, overall, EXTREMELY pleased [...]

Inside a Custom Portrait Session

Almost from the very beginning of my photography career, I have identified more as an artist than a photographer. And I know a lot of photographers say that, but I don’t mean it in the “my photos are really pretty” sense. Of course, don’t get me wrong: I truly believe photography is a trade that requires skill and a certain eye. Not just anyone can pick up a camera and say “I’m a photographer!” But here is the difference as I see it: A photographer’s work may live in a frame in the living room or hang on bedroom [...]

Photos from Our Last Minute Florida Trip

I'm sure you are missing those warm spring days just as much as I am right now, so hopefully today's recap of the trip Hokino and I took to Florida will help with the seasonal depression, and not make it worse! Early/Mid-December is kind of an odd time to travel, I will admit. It's pretty common to hoard those last few vacation days in order to travel back home for Christmas (at least, that's what I always did). But as the end of the year approached, Hoki realized he still had nine vacation days to use. Since I'm currently [...]

Finally! An Update on the Sugar Springs Renovation!

While I started 2019 off strong on the home-updating front — getting my attic studio painted and refurbishing some old cabinets to create more storage in the room — things unfortunately came to a halt after late spring/early summer. Which is why my last house update was almost an entire year ago! Fortunately, I was able to finish 2019 off strong by squeezing in some pretty substantial projects near the end. And while my house is still a little bit of a construction zone (especially outside, where my entire yard has now been reduced to mud), it’s high time I took you on [...]

How I Learned Being Lazy Can Be a Good Thing

Hokino and I have now been dating for an entire year, which (fun fact) is the longest I’ve ever dated anyone. But without getting sappy, the reason I’m telling you this is because I wanted to share something I have learned from dating Hoki that has played a large role in why, despite having a lot to stress about lately, life has still been pretty great. So I’m going to start this blog post off with a story:   When Hoki and I first started dating, I was absolutely flabbergasted that he could spend an entire weekend in bed, either [...]

Passages Brainstorm – Heartbreak

After you voted for which image I would be working on next (Heartbreak), I've spent the last month brainstorming. I thought it was high time I share what exactly I've been up to and how I've gone about doing all this brainstorming (big surprise, it involves me first love: spreadsheets). And even though that spreadsheet does make an appearance in this vlog, I promise this is definitely more entertaining than your college home finances class (or whatever else you typically use a spreadsheet for). Anyway, watch the video to find out how I plan to incorporate more than just my [...]

My Plans for 2020

We all know I’m obsessed with goals and planning. As you’ve witnessed, I’ve waxed eloquent on my love for spreadsheets many, many times. So what I’m going to write next might come as a surprise:   I don’t have goals for this year.   In fact there are only three things I am planning on working on this year, and none of those have any specific deadlines or checklists associated with them. Crazy for me, but I really do believe this is the right perspective I need to have this year. So what are those three things? They are Passages, [...]
